The jolliest and most colorful city event which has already become a good tradition for Riga and its guests Sherlock Holmes’ Birthday will be held January 8th, 2017.

For the sixth consecutive year, the most popular detective invites you to celebrate his unofficial birthday. And for the sixth time in a row the city center will be filled with true ladies and gentlemen, great Holmes’ & his loyal friend and colleague Doctor Watson’s doubles, and other colorful characters of the famous adventures of Arthur Conan Doyle.

Sherlock Holmes’ birthday, the annual costumed festival, brings together a large number of Holmes stories’ fans to walk in a colorful procession through the city center and take part in various thematic events. All major events for the guests of the festival are free of charge. The main condition is the costume in the spirit of the Arthur Conan Doyle’s characters and a festive mood for the whole day. A tea party with Mrs. Hudson, oatmeal from Barrymore, retro photography salon, guided tours of filming locations where the famous series directed by Igor Maslennikov were shot, costume contest, a flash mob, and an evening film screening will await you. The organizers express special gratitude to the Riga Tourism Development Bureau Live Riga’s assistance.

Celebration will start at 12.00 at the building of the National Art Museum (K.Valdemāra 10a). A costumed procession through the city center to the festive Verman Garden’s open-air stage on the Elizabetes Street side will begin at 13.00.

Here, at the park stage, a costume contest will be held, followed by awards ceremony and all kinds of entertainment for children and adults: creating Holmes snowmen, delicious treats from Barrymore, a flash mob “The biggest Holmes image from a bird’s eye view,” various activities for the young detectives and many other joyful events.

The second location of the holiday day will be Cafe Film Noir at “Splendid palace” (Elizabetes 61). There, at the Retro photography salon “Bertillon’s Photoroom” visitors will have a chance to take a memorable picture wearing the Holmes’ or Mrs. Hudson’s costumes. We’ll watch a silent movie about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes accompanied by Jazz Trio in the evening.
