As a part of the “Sherlock Holmes’ Birthday” international festival held annualy in Riga for the 6th time in 2017, a unique screening of the silent film “Sherlock Holmes” (1916) will be shown. Showing of silent film will feature live music. Special musical arrangement by saxophonist, flutist, jazz groups’ leader Denis Pashkevich and Lithuanian percussionist, oavant-garde jazz and contemporary music performer Arkady Gotesman.
The film, which was directed by Arthur Berthelet, was produced by Essanay Studios in Chicago. All surviving prints of the 1916 film Sherlock Holmes were once thought to be lost. However, on October 1, 2014, it was announced that a copy had been discovered in a film archive.
Film will be shown to the Latvian audience for the first time.
